High-salt has deleterious effects on regulatory T cells via activation of SGK-1. This activation leads to downregulation of transcriptors factors (FoxO1/FoxO3) critical for the homeostasis of Tregs.
Dr. Leonardo V. Riella is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Physician-Scientist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston.
He is Associate Director of Kidney Transplantation, Associate Member of Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT and Associate Editor of the American Journal of Transplantation.
Dr. Riella’s research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of immune regulation and on the development of novel therapies to promote organ tolerance.
